    Crawl Depth

Crawl depth is the number of clicks from entry pages (often the homepage). Deeper pages are harder to discover and accumulate authority.

    Definition

Crawl depth is how many link hops it takes for a bot to reach a page from an entry point (often the homepage or a hub page). Deeper pages tend to be discovered and refreshed less frequently and may receive less internal authority.

    Why it matters

    • Deep pages are crawled and refreshed less frequently
    • Internal authority weakens as depth increases
    • Increases the risk of orphan pages

    How to implement

    • Use hub pages (Tools/Learn/Glossary) as navigational entry points
    • Interlink within topic clusters to reduce depth
    • Avoid relying on internal search or JS-only navigation for important pages
